EOS PRIZE
EOS awarded Michael Auinger, Petra Ebbinghaus, Adrian Blümich, and Andreas Erbe for the publication in JEOS RP 9, 14004 (2014), Effect of surface roughness on optical heating of metals.
Congratulations!

EOS EARLY CAREER WOMEN IN PHOTONICS AWARD
As a legacy of the LIGHT2015 project, EOS decided to continue to award young researchers and entrepreneurs for their outstanding contributions to photonics.
The award for 2016 Early Career Women in Photonics went to Camille-Sophie Brès, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) for her outstanding research and work on Fiber and Waveguide Optics. Special recognitions were given to two other outstanding applications: Ripalta (Patty) Stabile, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven and Isabelle Staude, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena.

BEST STUDENT PRESENTATION AWARDS
EOS awarded the best student oral and poster presentations at EOSAM, sponsored by Carl ZEISS.
The Award for the best oral presentation went to Arko Graf, Institute for Physical Chemistry, University Heidelberg, for his presentation on Strong coupling in single-walled carbon nanotube microcavities: Exciton-polaritons in the near-infrared.
The best poster presentation Award went to Matthias Strauch, TU Delft (NL) for his poster on Surface harmonics on liquid lenses.
Congratulations to all!

EOS also announced the selection of the new President-Elect at the Annual General Assembly.
Prof. Dr. Humberto Michinel from Optics Lab, University of Vigo (ES), will be acting as the EOS President-Elect, and Prof. Dr. Jürgen Jahns, Fern Universität in Hagen (DE), will be continuing as President of EOS.
EOS warmly welcomes our new President-Elect and other new board members, and wishes a great success for the whole Board of EOS.

Open Tenure Track Position in Experimental Optics and Photonics, Tampere University of Technology (TUT), Finland
http://www.tut.fi/en/about-tut/careers-at-tut/open-positions/index.htm

Optics and Photonics underpins much of modern science and knowledge-intensive technology. This area is one of the strongest research areas of TUT and was promoted to one of its profile areas in the recently updated University Strategy. Research in Optics and Photonics at TUT will be strengthened by opening several new tenure-track positions during 2017-2020.

We are broadly interested in excellent candidates that can complement our present Optics and Photonics activities. We will give special attention to candidates who have strong expertise in the following subfields or a combination thereof:

  • Biophotonics and/or applications in life sciences
  • Novel imaging techniques
  • Novel photonic materials
  • Quantum optics and/or quantum technologies
  • Spectroscopy and optical measurement techniques
