SMETHODS is a FP7 funded support action which organises trainings in optical design. The participation in the training sessions is free for everybody – although priority is given to employees of small and medium sized European enterprises (SMEs). This recently started programme aims to strengthen Europe's optics and photonics industry by providing trainings and hands-on practice in optical design and simulation.
Training domain 3: Wave Optical Design
Purpose: Hands-on training in modelling of coherent or partially coherent light propagation through optical systems where wave optical effects are crucial. At the end of the session, the trainees will be able to perform reliable and realistic simulations of such optical systems and they will be able to use these modelling skills to design efficient optical systems for light coupling problems, interferometer design, tailored laser illumination, diffraction limited imaging and optical metrology (e.g. interferometers).
Target Group: SME employees, employees of other companies who need capabilities in optical design of such photonic systems.
Prerequisites: Masters in photonics, electrical engineering or physics, or several years professional experience as a technician or engineer in a photonics context.
Training domain coordinator: Prof. F. Wyrowski (FSU). Associate coordinator: Dr. Y. Meuret (VUB), Prof. P. Chavel (IOGS) and Prof. J. Turunen (UEF).
Registration deadline: 20 April, 2012
